Diet Therapy
According to Chinese Medicine, medicine and food are of the same source. Chinese nutrition therapy is the practice of healing using natural foods instead of medications.
Dietary recommendations are usually made according to the patient's individual condition in relation to Chinese Medicine theory. A balanced diet, which leads to health, is when the five healing flavours are in balance. When one is unbalanced, certain foods and herbs are prescribed to restore balance to the body.
Therapeutic foods are designed to assist the body in healing itself. Different kinds of foods can be used as treatments for various ailments. Before suggesting a therapeutic diet, there are many factors to consider: the patient's constitution, the nature of the patient's illness and type of syndrome (according to TCM diagnosis), and even the season and climate. The proper diet for the patient is based on all of these factors, not just upon the disease alone.
